Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before visiting Nanshan District

Most visitors require a Chinese visa. However, citizens of many countries can transit through Shenzhen visa-free for up to 144 hours (6 days) if arriving via Hong Kong or Macau. For medical tourism purposes, a proper visa (usually tourist L-visa or medical M-visa) is recommended. We can assist with invitation letter services if needed.

Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is about 20km from Nanshan. Options include: Metro Line 11 to Qianhai Exchange (30 min, ¥8), taxi/ride-hailing (30-40 min, ¥80-120), or our airport transfer service. For medical tourists, we offer complimentary pickup arrangements.

Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted at hotels, large malls, and hospitals. However, WeChat Pay and Alipay are essential for everyday transactions — most local shops, restaurants, and taxis only accept these. We recommend setting up WeChat Pay with a linked international card, or bring sufficient RMB cash for smaller vendors.

Free WiFi is available at hotels, airports, and major attractions. For unlimited access, we recommend renting a local SIM card (available at the airport) or purchasing an eSIM before arrival. Note: Google, Facebook, YouTube, and many international websites are blocked in China. A VPN is commonly used by visitors — we can provide recommendations upon request.

Mandarin is the primary language. Due to the large expat community in Nanshan, English is widely understood at hotels, hospitals, and tourist areas. Our medical partner hospitals have dedicated English-speaking coordinators. For daily interactions, translation apps like Pleco or Google Translate are helpful.

Shenzhen is one of China's safest cities, with very low crime rates. Nanshan District, being an international hub, has excellent public security. You can walk around confidently at any hour. Police stations have English services, and emergency number for foreigners is often accessible via 110 with English interpretation.

October to December offers the best weather — mild temperatures (15-25°C), lower humidity, and clear skies. Spring (March-May) is also pleasant. Summer (June-August) is hot and humid with occasional typhoons. Winter is mild but can be grey. For medical tourism, any time works as our partner hospitals operate year-round.

Currency exchange is available at the airport, major banks (ICBC, China Construction Bank), and hotels. ATMs accepting international cards are widely available. WeChat Pay and Alipay with linked foreign cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) are increasingly accepted. For the best rates, use bank exchanges rather than hotel counters.

Tap water is technically safe but due to aging pipes, we recommend drinking bottled or filtered water. Boiled water is safe for tea. All hotels provide complimentary bottled water. For medical tourists staying long-term, we can arrange water filtration systems upon request.

Pack light, comfortable clothing (cotton/linen for summer, light layers for winter), comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, an umbrella, universal power adapter (China uses Type A/I plugs, 220V), and any prescription medications with doctor's note. For medical tourists, bring all relevant medical records translated to English or Chinese.

Excellent. Shenzhen Metro is one of the world's best — clean, punctual, and English-signed. Metro Lines 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, and 11 serve Nanshan. Buses are comprehensive but require some Mandarin. Didi (Chinese Uber) is very reliable and affordable. For medical tourists, we provide dedicated transport coordination for all hospital visits.

Tipping is NOT customary in China and may even be refused. Service charges are included in most restaurants. In high-end international hotels and upscale restaurants, a service charge may already be added. For exceptional service, a small gesture is appreciated but never expected.
